Flameaway’s Freedom Principle delivers in deep stretch for first stakes win

Top-five First-Crop sire Flameaway got his third stakes horse Saturday at Gulfstream Park when Freedom Principle took the $65,000 Armed Forces S. by 1 ¼-lengths.

Freedom Principle, who was coming off a 7 ¾-length maiden special weight win on Oct. 8, got a good stalking trip in the 1 mile and 70 yard Armed Forces. He stalked pacesetter Prevent for most of the trip, then came along side him at the top of the stretch. The two raced together until the final sixteenth, when Freedom Principle pulled clear to secure the win.

Freedom Principle is owned by Echo Papa Racing Corp. and was bred in Kentucky by Lantern Hill Farm LLC.

Flameaway, the sire of two-time graded stakes winner Dreamfyre, is the only First-Crop sire with three stakes winners. Flameaway’s fee for 2024 was recently announced at $20,000 S&N.
